Attendance

Students are expected to attend school on all days that the school is operational including days when sporting carnivals are held.

Every day counts, as regular attendance helps students to:

The importance of arriving on time

Arriving at and class on time:

  • Ensures that students do not miss out on important messages for the school day and learning activities scheduled early in the day
  • Helps studetns learn the importance of punctuality and routine
  • Give students time to greet their friends before class
  • Reduces classroom disruption
What if my child will be away from school?

On occasion your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:

  • being sick or having an infectious illness/disease
  • having an unavoidable medical appointment
  • being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
  • exceptional or urgent family circumstances (e.g. attending a funeral)
Travel
Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during the school term is necessary, please contact the school to discuss. An Application for Extended Leave may need to be completed.

Absences

Schools in partnership with Parents and Carers, are responsible for promoting regular attendance of students. School staff, as part of their duty of care, record and monitor partial and whole day absences.

Student absences include sick leave due to illness or injury, leave approved by the principal for other reasons, unexplained/unjustified absences and absences due to suspension.

A variation to student attendance is not counted as an absence. Students are not present at the school site and may be on school business, participating in flexible timetables, a shared enrolment, or exempt from attending for a period of time.
